Gaumukh Temple

Introduction:
The Gaumukh Temples stand to the pride of the Hindus and is regarded by them as one of the most sacred places of worship. A visit to this place at least once in their life is aspired for by many Hindu devotees. After climbing up the 700 steps, you shall finally be able to reach the topmost part of the temple.
It is invariably a great feeling to be there at the top of the temple, where the stone carved cow’s head sends down a torrential flow of water to the tank. From here the name of the place Gaumukh has been derived. Gau means cow and Mukh means mouth. The beautiful tank is something worth seeing. It is considered to be a sacred spot of water reservoir where people come and pay homage to their adored lord.
History:
This temple is a sacred place where Rishi Vashishtha performed the sacred rites. The place where the great Yagna was performed by the rishi, to evoke the gods and goddess, so that they may shower their blessings over this earth, became immortal. People from near and far comes to show their reverence for the great spot where such an auspicious occasion had been held. The mighty serpent called Arbuda stands here. According to Indian Mythology, the serpent is the eternal guard offering protection against the natural calamities. It guards the Lord from all those calamities.

The Gaumukh Temple is located atop the hill and is one of the most visited Hindu Pilgrim spot. The temple has been cut from a huge rock in the sacred spot where rishi Vashistha performed the great rite and offered sacrifices to Lord Vishnu in order to obtain his blessings. Herein lies the importance of Gaumukh Temple. It is also one of the most important picnic spots in Rajasthan. The statue of Nandi stands in front of the temple and is of prior importance for the Shaivaites. This is because Nandi is the vahana of Lord Shiva. Near the statue of Nandi you can also find the statues of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna.
